Lahm Lhalou – Sweet Algerian lamb stewed with dates
Score
Big M

The lamb is good and the dish gets better with every mouthful.
There were no vegetables in the dish, but it is eaten around Ramadan. To make up for the lack of salt there is quite a lot of sugar in the dish.

Visually the dish did nothing for me, but wow so much flavour in first bite of the stew. The meat melts in your mouth and the dates disintegrated into mush. The spices are warming but not overpowering.

This dish could be served with couscous, but we wanted to try out our new rice cooker. Big M also used dates instead of prunes, and the juice of half an orange rather than orange blossom water. We could not find a cup for Algeria.
