The Japanese Plate
Ginger Pork – Buta no Shoga Yaki with steamed rice

Score

Big M
2 and half stars

The pork strips areĀ  briefly marinated in soy sauce, mirin, ginger and garlic. The dish is too dry and needs a sauce. The rice is mushy (but that was my fault).

little m
2 and half stars

The dish is tasty but needs some stir fried vegetables to make it a more complete meal.

Comments

The ginger pork recipe came from Harumi’s Japanese Home Cooking cookbook, who is very popular in her home country. She recommends you serve the dish with rice and green peas. Cook the rice in chicken stock with a tablespoon of sake and a teaspoon of light soy sauce.

Japanese is one of the healthiest cuisines in the world. The people of Okinawa (a small island off Japan) have the highest percentage of centenarians in the world. If you’d like to find out more about the diet and lifestyle of these amazing people, visit The Okinawa Centenarian Study, or read about them in The Okinawa Program.
